Why We Built Qovr
The story behind Qovr: how frustration with existing testing tools led us to build something better.
Why We Built Qovr
Every company has an origin story. Ours starts with frustration.
The Problem
In 2021, I was leading engineering at a fast-growing startup. We had all the right tools: Cypress for E2E tests, Jest for unit tests, a sophisticated CI/CD pipeline. On paper, we were doing everything right.
In practice, our tests were a nightmare.
The Breaking Point
One Friday afternoon, a test failure blocked our deploy. The error: "Element not found." After two hours of debugging, we discovered a CSS animation was interfering with our click handler. The test was timing-dependent.
That weekend, I wrote the first version of what would become Qovr. The premise was simple: what if tests could explain their own failures?
The Vision
Qovr is built on three principles:
Where We Are Today
Three years later, Qovr runs millions of tests every day for thousands of companies. We've reduced average debugging time by 47% and eliminated flakiness for most of our users.
But we're just getting started. The testing experience is still far from perfect, and we won't stop until shipping code feels as good as writing it.
